10 Ways To Get “Stiffed” By Your Customers.

1) Don’t do any credit checks before advancing credit.

2) Don’t have a written credit policy…or if you do keep it safe…its valuable document which you want to keep out of the ‘Gaze” of your staff.

3) Don’t keep credit card facilities….because they erode your profit margins.

4) Don’t bother about getting personal particulars or guarantees on new accounts…rely upon the informed comments of your mates…particularly those that come after a few beers.

5)Don’t issue invoices at the point of sale…do it when you can find time.

6) Issue your statements late each month…or better still, skip a month every now and again…you can easily catch up next month, can’t you.

7) Encourage your staff to get sales no matter what the cost and don’t get them involved in the collection process.

8) Only write up your records when time permits.

9) Become personally involved with your customers and volunteer to share in every misfortune that comes their way. In this way, you can ease their financial burden by agreeing to defer the payment of your account.

10) Only use telephone to ask for payment when you’re sure that the customer is no longer buying from you…to do so before hand could cost you sales.

Smile :)...it is in jest...isnt it???

7 "Home Truths" About Advertising.

Here are some 'home spun" truths about advertising.

1) A good looking ad is no insurance that it will get looked at. " How many people do you know who are impeccably groomed...but as boring as hell".

2)Be proactive in your advertising...but be sure the proactiveness stems from the product.

3)A dull truth will not be looked at. An exciting "white Lie" will. The trick is to make your truth interesting, fresh and new.

4) Advertising doesn't create a product advantage it can only convey it.

5)Getting a product known isn't the answer, getting it "wanted" is.

6)In advertising. the energetic displace the passive every time.

7) "Word of Mouth" is the best medium of all. It's believeable and it's free...so why do so few businesses use it.

Always Explain Why.

When you ask somebody to do something, be sure to tell them why.

Explaining why you want something done automatically removes the chance of appearing domineering and "bossy".

Explaining "why" lessens the chance of error.

It also gives the person requested to perform the job the chance to put it in proper prespective.

They are aware of the bigger picture.

They also get the oppurtunity to ask questions if they are unsure.

Explaining "why" pays the person a compliment.

You're informing them that thy're part of a team....their contributition is important.

This applies to customers and staff.

Free Advertising And Promotion.

The next time you have to drive around the city, try this little test.

Keep count of the number of business trucks or vechiles which really "sell" the message of their owners.

I guarantee you will be surprised at how few do.

Recently I saw a large delivery truck with simply the initials " UMP" plastered up the sides, what does "UMP" stand for?

Presumably the name of the company, but what do they do, what do they sell?

Unless your've got buckets of cash to make the initials of the business well known (like BHP) surely this prime transportable advertising space would be better served by "selling" the product.

With roadside billboards renting for thousands a month for the same area and exposure, this business is " underselling" itself.

My bet is that a $800 sign writing job would return then 10 times the investment each and every year.

Do you have trucks or vechiles which could be deilvering your message for "free" and aren't.

Think about it.

How To Say "NO"

In difficult times such as the present, managers are frequently called upon to exercise their powers of veto.

They must say "no" to proposed expenditures, "no" to extra staff, maybe,"no" to existing staff as well.

There is a right way to say "no" so as to maximize your position.

Always practise the golden rule of saying "yes" immediately but " no" only after qualification.

If you begin a letter or conversation with "no" chances are high that your listener or reader will tune out with rejection and disappointment and perhaps fail to catch your later message.

Try this winning strategy when you have to say "no".

* Begin by reviewing all the facts in a step by step manner.

* Provide the supporting information which went into making the decision making it very clear that all alternatives were very carefully considered .

Ensure all information is capable of substaniation.

* Say "no" politely, having based the decision upon logical facts as already related to the listener.

The trick is to get the other party to acknowledge the reasons behind the decision and to genuinely believe their "proposition" received a fair assessment.

Some Ideas On Handling Paperwork

*After sorting, handle paper only once.

* Make decisions about your paperwork. Don't play "paper shuffle".

*Open your mail over the waste basket.

* Ask yourself this question "What will happen if I toss this out?If nothing, toss it out.

* Write your responses in the margin of an internal memo and return it to the orginator.

*Skim if it's reference material.

* Highligh items to which you may want to refer back.

* Don't keep rarely used items.

*Clear out your 'in basket' daily.

*Strive to complete your paperwork daily.

You will be relieved at the energy and satisfaction you feel as opposed to that bogged down feeling you get when looking at apile of unfinished paperwork.
