Advertising Slogans

The Who, What, How and When of Advertising Slogans.

What are Advertising Slogans?

Slogans are claimed to be and often prove to be the most effective means of drawing attention to a product or service.

Typically these slogans make claims about a product or service like.... being the best in quality or providing important benefits or solutions or being the most desirable for potential customers.

Often witty and of course crisp, concise and direct.

They are designed for their creativity, simplicity and hopefully longevity, and designed to make the audience, you and me, feel good and want to own what the slogan wants us to buy.

Slogans can be written by advertising firms, usually for a fee, sometimes a hefty fee.

You can also organise a staff get together and dream up your own. Organise someone to be a scribe and write the ideas down, review them at a later date and you could have a winning slogan for your product or service.

You can also run a competition and get your customers and the public to suggest an advertising slogan. You could get plenty of free publicity with this idea.

How do you use Advertising Slogans?

You use it everywhere.

In your newspaper, radio, TV advertisements.

They are very good for quickly and simply getting your message across to your target audience.

One very successful way of using slogans is to top and tail your radio and television adverts with your slogan. You then place the current information between the slogans. E.g. sales on a product line.

This gets your brand and USP (Unique Selling Proposition) across a lot and often and helps your target audience remember you as well as promoting a sale or other message.

He keeps going and going and going - Nokia.

The Real Thing - Coke.

When is the Best time to introduce an Advertising slogan?

No time is the best time, just do it when you feel comfortable.

However, remember a slogan is not a marketing campaign and while very good for getting a message across simply, quickly and often, people also want information about your product and how it will benefit them, so a slogan should only be part of the marketing mix, not the whole campaign.
